The Monroe Youth League was established in the early 1900s by a small group of concerned friends who wanted to help children in need during a difficult time. Over the years, more than eighty volunteers have worked over ten thousand hours in the community at various organizations such as the Children's Club, the Clinic for Crippled Children, the Cooley School, the CP School, the Ouachita Parish Tutoring Program, the Masur Museum, and classes for people with hearing problems. The League has been able to reach many children in Ouachita Parish with their programs, including day camp for 22 children from abusive homes and continuous visits with the children during game days. The League has also been able to provide assistance to 197 families in need, 73% of which were single women and children in situations of immediate crisis. In April 1994, they were awarded for their excellent volunteer service for an organization in the Ouachita parish community.
Later that year, they took the children to “Game Day” where they enjoyed skating and eating pizza in the park. In addition to providing assistance to those in need, the League has also made donations to various organizations such as the Mayor's Visual Arts Committee, the Northeast Louisiana Children with Learning Disabilities Association Conference, the Monroe Police Department for 12 trauma kits, and the Cooley School to establish a Girl Scout troop. By joining a children organization in Monroe, Louisiana you can make a real difference in your community. Your gift will provide love, care and hope in Christ for those who need it most.
